Victorian police are appealing to the public to help identify a man who allegedly indecently assaulted a 27-year-old woman on a Melbourne train.
The alleged assault happened while the woman was attempting to exit the train at Heidelberg station at 10pm on January 8.
Police have released CCTV vision of a man wanted for questioning over the alleged assault - he is Caucasian, aged in his mid to late 20s, with a slim build and brown hair.
Detective Senior Constable Scott Richards says the man attempted to talk to the woman, before he stood behind her and indecently touched her.
"As she was about to exit the train, he's touched her inappropriately and indecently assaulted her and he's also followed her off the train and on to the platforms at Heidelberg," he said.
"This has instilled a great amount of fear into the victim, so much so that when she was on the ramp, leaving the station, she's actually approached another man and asked him for assistance or to stay with him."
Detective Senior Constable Richards says it was an alarming attack.
"It's hard to believe he's done this in front of people on the train, she wasn't alone on the train, there are numerous people getting off and it's a concern that he's done this in front of so many people," he said.
