Human remains have been found at the scene of a fire that razed a general store in Victoria's northeast, police say.
Detectives and fire investigators are probing what caused a blaze at the Whitfield general store, which was engulfed in flames just before 4am (AEDT) on Monday.
"Police can confirm what appears to be human remains have been located at the scene of a fire in Whitfield this morning," police said in a statement.
Officers had been looking for a woman who was unaccounted for after the fire.
Ten tankers were used to fight the blaze, and a nearby power pole had fallen, bringing down powerlines, a CFA spokesman said.
