A man accused of hacking off part of a teenager's ear in a bizarre robbery attempt on the Gold Coast has had his case mentioned in court.
Carl Bloomfield, 18, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and deprivation of liberty, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm, over the incident at Varsity Lakes on Monday night.
Police allege a 16-year-old boy and his male friend were approached by a man who produced a gun and demanded they hand over property.
The man then used a pair of scissors to cut off the bottom half of the 16-year-old's earlobe before running away.
Bloomfield did not appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
His lawyer made no application for bail and the matter was adjourned to April 3.
