The repair work on roads and bridges damaged in Queensland's floods will be fast-tracked to allow communities to start getting back to normal.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson said the first round of contracts would go to tender later this month.

The first package of repair work will focus on the Lockyer Valley, including repairs to the Gatton-Esk Road Bridge over Lockyer Creek and roads around Laidley and Gatton.

"Over the past week I've travelled with the Department's Acting Director-General Neil Scales and spoken to local mayors, local members and Queenslanders affected by flood damage and promised that we would get roads opened as soon as possible," Mr Emerson said.
