The Cairns Public Health Unit says the spread of dengue fever in the far north Queensland city still looks to be slowing, despite an outbreak of another strain.
At least two people have been infected with type-two dengue in the Edge Hill area, where the type 1 strain has affected more than 60 people.
But Dr Richard Gair says mosquito numbers in the area are falling.
I wouldn't say the rate of infection is growing again," he said.
"Remember, we've got a different type.
"This is due to a new importation, and it's in a slightly different part of Edge Hill.
"Overall I wouldn't say that we've got an increased rate of transmission - if anything, the indication is that the rate of transmission has dropped."
