Today News.com.au have reported that there is speculation on the social networking website Twitter and both Sydney and Melbourne radio stations that Prime Minister Julia Gillard is about to be tapped on the shoulder.
Sky News journalist David Speers, broadcaster Ben Fordham and reporter Stephen Spencer said the Gillard and Rudd camps have denied something is afoot.
NSW Liberal MPs have repeated the claims, with Oatley state member Mark Coure tweeting: "Gillard told last week she has lost the numbers of Caucus."
According to News.com.au, Fairfax regional news director Bevan Shields said lots of NSW Liberal MPs were claiming the Prime Minister was about to be tapped on the shoulder.
"Something is afoot," tweeted News Limited columnist Peter van Onselen, but he said no "delegation" had visited the Prime Minister.
Journalist Stephen Spencer said that it was "headless chook time in the (press) gallery". The hashtag, #spill, is trending on Twitter.
