There are calls for athletes at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Queensland's Gold Coast to be housed in a caravan city.
An apartment-style athletes' village will be built at the massive Parklands site ahead of the opening ceremony in five years but it means the showgrounds will have to be demolished.
The Big Day Out music festival has already moved as a result and a question mark remains over the future of other events.
The vice-chairman of harness racing on the Gold Coast, Dave Zahnleiter, says the plan is disruptive and competitors should sleep in caravans instead.
"If they did that for the Commonwealth Games, I'm pretty sure any athlete that stayed in them would be quite pleased to stay there," he said.
The Gold Coast Show Society president Dennis Standfield also supports a demountable athletes' village.
