Prime Minister Julia Gillard will meet with Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates later this month to discuss aid and development.

Mr Gates, who has led international efforts to eradicate polio by the end of 2018, will meet Ms Gillard in Canberra on May 28.

In October 2011, Ms Gillard pledged $50 million over four years to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

But it is hoped the government will provide a further $80 million to bolster the final years of the campaign.
