RECIFE, Brazil (AP) — Spain dominated the first half of its Confederation Cup opener against Uruguay and was 2-0 up at halftime thanks to goals from Pedro in the 20th minute and Roberto Soldado in the 32nd.

Spain had a bit of luck with the first goal, which deflected off Uruguay defender Diego Lugano to beat goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. The second was perfect finishing by Soldado, who was left unmarked and scored from just inside the area.

Spain is trying to win the only major international trophy it lacks to go with it 2010 World Cup title and two consecutive European championships.

Coach Vicente del Bosque started captain Iker Casillas in goal and striker Fernando Torres could not even find a place as a substitute.
