2. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Geoffrey Manley, Chief of Neurosurgery at San Francisco General:

"It's a very very sad day here at San Francisco General Hospital. We've all done everything that we could to take care of this young lady and unfortunately as you've just heard she's passed away. We're now here to take care of the family. And again I would like to echo Dr. Knudsen's comments that we've been asked by the family to provide them with some time and some space to appropriately mourn this tragic loss. Though I ask that all of you heed their requests and give them some time so that they may try to heal. Thank you.

A girl who was aboard the Asiana Airlines flight that crash-landed died Friday. San Francisco General Hospital said she had been in critical condition since arriving Saturday after the accident. Officials did not identify the girl at the request of her parents. Her age was also withheld.

The airliner collided with a rocky seawall just short the runway. Dozens of other passengers were injured, and although 182 were taken to hospitals, most suffered only minor injuries.

Nearly a week after the crash, the investigation indicates the pilots, a trainee and his instructor, failed to realize until too late that the aircraft was dangerously low and flying too slow.
