Two new solar farms will be built in the ACT as a result of the Government's latest solar auction.

The Chinese company Zhenfa Solar will build a 13-megawatt farm on Mugga Lane.

The Australian company Elementus Energy will construct its 10-megawatt OneSun Capital Solar Farm at Coree near Uriarra Village.

Environment Minister Simon Corbell says that is on top of FRV's Royalla Solar Farm announced last year.

"These are three big projects that are going to provide enough solar power for 10,000 Canberra homes," he said.

"They're going to cut our greenhouse gas emissions by 1.4 million tonnes over their operational life.

"These are important projects for our city."

Capital investment for the combined projects will be more than $100 million, and will employ about 165 people during construction.

"The maximum cost to households is expected to be 45 cents per week when all three farms are operating in 2016," Mr Corbell said.

"This is forecast to drop to 27 cents per household per week by 2021."
