A 15-year-old boy has been stabbed in the neck at a Brisbane Catholic school, sending it into lockdown.

Media reports say the stabbing occurred in an auditorium at Mt Maria College in Mitchelton, in Brisbane's north, just before 1pm (AEST) on Thursday.

A police spokeswoman said the boy was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A male teenage student was being questioned, police said.

On its website soon after the incident the school said it had gone into lockdown and "no one will be able to enter or leave the school".

But it later updated the advice to simply say an "incident has occurred at the school".

"All students and staff are safe," it read.

"Normal pick up at 3pm."
