An Afghani man has appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court after being arrested this morning as part of a 12 month nationwide investigation into people smuggling.
He was one of five people arrested in early morning raids as part of Operation Delphinium.
31-year-old Barkat Ali Wahide is facing two charges of facilitating the arrival in Australia of asylum seekers between January and May last year.
He was not required to plead to the charges.
Mr Wahide was not represented by a lawyer, but the told the court in broken English that he has been in immigration detention for the past 17 months.
He was granted bail but on the condition that he be released into the custody of the immigration department.
Mr Wahide is due back in court late next month.
