Two men have been charged over an assault that put an elderly man in hospital on the New South Wales south coast last weekend.
Francois Beugels was punched, kicked and stomped on as he went for his daily walk in North Nowra around 6:30pm on Sunday.
The 76-year-old had told police he noticed two males following him and was then hit from behind before having his wallet taken.
Police said when Mr Beugels called out for help the males returned and kicked him two more times.
After a tip-off from a member of the public, detectives last night arrested two men, aged 19 and 36.
Both have been charged with multiple offences, including aggravated assault with intent to rob and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.
They were held in custody overnight to face Nowra Local Court today.
Speaking earlier this week, Mr Beugels told how he feared for his life during the attack.
"I got bashed repeatedly, I got stomped on repeatedly. They took my head and smashed it into the asphalt. You know, I thought my days were gone," he said.
