A man has been stabbed in the neck after catching an intruder in his home in the Perth suburb of Gosnells.

Police say the 28-year-old man returned to his property in Lauterbach Drive about 11:00 pm last night and found the intruder ransacking his house.

The man chased the offender and according to police, caught him in the lounge room.

The pair was involved in a physical altercation when the offender then produced a knife and stabbed the victim in his neck.

The man's wounds are not life-threatening.

Police are searching for a dark-skinned man in his early 20s who fled the scene in a white Ford Laser hatchback.
