A man died shortly after being arrested for creating a disturbance at a polling booth in Brisbane's south.

The 49-year-old died late Saturday morning after police had moved him on at Upper Mount Gravatt, in the Liberal-held seat of Bonner.

Queensland Police say the man collapsed about 40 minutes after two officers arrested him at Upper Mount Gravatt State School.

He had been escorted outside, issued with a notice to appear for public nuisance and released from custody.

The local resident collapsed at a nearby intersection and died at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

A coronial report is being prepared, while the Crime and Misconduct Commission will oversee an internal police investigation.
