Two men are in a serious condition in hospital after a three vehicle crash on the Peak Downs Highway, west of Mackay in north Queensland.

Two trucks and a car were involved in the crash about 2:30am (AEST).

A diesel tanker caught fire and is burning on the highway.

Two men aged in their 40s were taken to Mackay Base Hospital with multiple fractures.

The truck drivers were unhurt.

Police have set up a one kilometre exclusion zone and the highway is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
