The RACQ says speed limits should be raised on some Queensland roads and limits around road works should be reviewed.
A State Government review of speed limits has received more than 3,000 submissions.
It will prioritise 100 roads across the state for consideration and will phase in any changes over a six month period.
Road safety engineer Greg Miszkowycz says many routes have already been made safer but construction sites should be a priority because they are frustrating drivers.
"The road conditions can change, especially if the road is upgraded," he said.
"There is a need to go back and periodically reassess whether the current speed limit is actually relevant and credible under the current conditions.
"[But] If there's no reason to have the lowered limit when there aren't any road workers present, then they should reinstate the prevailing speed limit and reduce frustration of motorists having to travel at lower speed limits when there isn't any particular reason for it."
