AIGLE, Switzerland (AP) — Italian cyclist Stefano Agostini has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a synthetic steroid.

The International Cycling Union says Agostini tested positive for clostebol in a urine sample taken Aug. 21 during a training period.

The UCI says he remains suspended while the Italian cycling federation prosecutes a disciplinary case.

The 24-year-old Agostini faces a two-year ban.

The Cannondale squad said that Agostini had already been fired after telling the team last month that he had used a cream containing a banned substance.
