Cher is setting out to conquer the 'Woman's World.' The legendary singer announced on Monday (September 23) that she is embarking on a North American tour to celebrate her new studio album, "Closer To The Truth." Cher will hit 49 cities, launching in Phoenix in March and winding up in San Diego next July.

SOUNDBITE: Cher saying (English):

"I've got ideas for using new technology and I'm extremely excited about that part of it. I like the new songs; I hope I get to do some of those. I'd like to do "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" and "Welcome to Burlesque" because I just think that's so campy and fun. You know, concerts should just be fun."

Fun, but don't expect the singer - who has a history of provocative performances under her belt - to do any Miley Cyrus-style twerking on tour. Cher said she wasn't a fan of Cyrus' sexually suggestive performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

"I just didn't think it was up to the standards that I would've liked to see professionally. I have no qualms about whatever she's doing. That's her choice. You make your choices as an artist. But I don't think she should be getting all this heat; it's insane. It's not like she did anything horrendous. She just chose something to do that people think is weird."

As for her album, its first single "Woman's World" has become a dance club hit, thanks in part to support from her older fans and a brand new generation of music listeners discovering her for the first time. The album is Cher's first collection of new material in 11 years. Why so long? She said she wasn't sure people would still be interested.

SOUNDBITE: Cher saying (English):

"It just didn't occur to me that anybody would be waiting with bated breath for my next project. Maybe it's because I've done it for so long. I've been doing it for what, 50 years almost? It just didn't occur to me to do it anymore. Nobody gets that, but I just didn't think about it."

Luckily for her fans, she did think about it. "Closer To The Truth" will be released on Tuesday (September 24) and advanced tickets to her tour go on sale on September 30.
