A parliamentary committee is set to conduct an inquiry to investigate the role and powers of the state's Public Sector Commissioner, ministers and agency heads.

The Public Accounts Committee will examine amendments to the Public Sector Management Act that were passed in 20-10, which gave the commissioner additional power and functions.

The committee will be chaired by Liberal M-P Dean Nalder, and will specifically look at provisions in the Act relating to the appointment and management of agency CEOs.

Mr Nalder said the inquiry would ensure the proper checks and balances are in place.

"What we want to make sure is that there's transparency and accountability and that is connected to the increased amount of responsibility the commissioner now has," he said.
