North Burleigh's Liz Pluimers has ditched her bridesmaid tag to claim her first victory with a dominant performance in Sunday's Coolangatta Gold.

The 26-year-old, a five-time podium finisher in surf lifesaving endurance classic, finished seven and a half minutes ahead of last year's winner Brodie Moir after leading at every change over the 41.5km course.

Northcliffe's Courtney Hancock had been poised to chase down Pluimers in a repeat of her title win in 2011 but faded on the final 7.1km beach run to finish third.

In the open men's race Ali Day made it back-to-back titles with a comfortable win in his first race back from a stress fracture in his foot.

The Mooloolaba clubman finished six and a half minutes ahead of Nathan Smith with Josh Minogue a further 30 seconds back in third place.
