SYDNEY (AP) — Former Juventus and Italy star Alessandro Del Piero will miss Sydney FC's match against Adelaide United on Monday due to calf soreness and his coach is blaming numerous fouls by opposition players.

Sydney FC said in a statement Sunday that Del Piero was fouled repeatedly during the team's 1-0 win over Central Coast and coach Frank Farina is calling for better protection for A-League playmakers.

Farina said Del Piero was fouled eight or 10 times during the match and that "I think there needs to be better protection for him on the field ... we play a physical game and Alessandro is a big boy who can handle himself, but he is getting kicked repeatedly and if that continues he will miss games through injury."
